We can measure things like vi to max in economy as indicators of fitness. A fit person will not see a spike in blood pressure in response to stress, even psychological stress. For an olympic athlete, strength becomes relevant because it affects injury, it affects performance. And every one who works in a sport where there is a strength component, rugby, basket ball and squash have a strength component.
