Putting the Hip Flexors to Sleep
Hip flexors are not the prime movers in a vertical jump. Most people are tight from sitting and, you know, just lack of mobility. If you have really tight hip flexors, they're going to kind of create friction as you try to jump up and extend. You're going to be really sore the next day from just rapidly stretching that muscle out.
