The adaptive immune system is very smart. It has different combinatorial fragments that it can assemble and stitch together. You can make a ton of different antibodies just out of one gene. We also have two chains that you put together out of three possible chains. So commutatorially, you can get something like two and a half million in different combinations. And if you add these imprecisions at the joining, you get some ridiculous number,. like 10 to 14 different antibodies that you can make.
