In 1979 he took the Belgian record on the marathon at two hours, ten minutes and zero seconds. He was part of what we call here in Belgium a golden generation of runners. The athletes who have famous athletes go to sign Moritz for altitude camp every year. They trained three times a day, a lot of days, only running with very hard intensity workouts. There were fantastic stories about this time, although now he admits it was way too intensive.
