Is Chronic Stress Associated With Dementia?
Cortisol gets into the brain when it's released by the adrenal glands which sit over the kidney on each side, and then of course is through the bloodstream. And it has effects on their muscles on our autonomic nervous system it also has effects on the brain. When they're stimulated constantly, it actually leads to a toxic response where the cells eventually die because they have been stimulated excessively. This is one of the sources of early neurodegeneration among people who have been chronically stressed.
