The Role of Personal Responsibility in Sports Psychology
There's this principle in sports psychology called the Bocke Road. It describes that if you want to help an athlete reach their poor potential, then actually carefully exposing them to struggle is a really poor part of that developmental process. And my view is that there is a risk sometimes that we have kind of coddled people that we've tried to make the road too smooth. We can't remove all the stressors and actually we know that it would be a bad thing if we did. So I'm really resistant to this idea that we don't have as employers, as workplaces, any responsibility for the road in that metaphor.I think we need to be thoughtful about it. At the
