How to Be a Successful Engineer in a Startup

It's a pretty common career for engineers who are feeling, let's say a little board coding all day and want to be customer facing. Don't apply to startups where they're the first SE because you'll have to deal with account management. Being the first SE at a startup isn't for the faint of heart. I think a better route to becoming an SE would be to join a more established company with a team in place so you can learn the ropes.
