The End of the Cold War

I think for several generations, and then also in the 60s, the discovery of human beings as a planet transforming force on an ecological level, I think there were real reasons for people to be terrified into a kind of apocalyptic pessimism. Now that's true. I think 1980 truly was momentous. It was the, the end of the Cold War and the worst threats of nuclear exchange. And it also led to a decline in the number of proxy wars in Asia and Africa and South America which people don't appreciate.
