Plato's Disdain for Material Wealth

Xenocrates drank everyone else under the table and was awarded a gold laurel wreath. Displaying his disdain for material wealth, he left the gold wreath on the head of a statue of hermes the city. Soon we'll see hellenistic philosophers fighting over the role of pleasure in the good life as well as its relation to virtue.
