Step five is to identify a confidence level. It's not impossible for somebody to simply answer question about what they mean by that word and notice that they're altering the self reported degree of confidence that it's true. Step six is to clarify your definition, because sometimes 80% of the conversation is right there in those clarified terms. And step seven is to ask them whatever scale is comfortable for them - one to ten or zero to 100. A lot of material was devoted to this stuff when i was writing my book 'The Emotional Intelligence'
