The Metaphorization of Decolonization
Settlers are diverse, not just of white european descent. They include people of color, even from other colonial contexts. Decolonization in a settler context is fraught because empire settlement and internal colony have no spatial separation. The promise of integration and civil rights is predicated on securing a share of a settler appropriated wealth. Colonial society strains to destroy or assimilate the native population. These myriad contradictions make solidarity complicated. This is how society can have multiple simultaneous conflicting messages about indigenous people.
