Is There a Shortcut to Electing a President?
It's cognitively simpler to say someone who is in charge has figured out what we should do, says Bob. This also explains why dictators are able to muster so much power. In the face of authority, dissenters often hide their views or withdraw from argument. A president is not just someone who signs bills into laws. If a president tells us we have nothing to fear but fear itself, we feel braver.
