Don't Take This Personally
Many managers try to start with the words, don't take this personally. O course people are going to take it personally. Of course they do. Don't try to prevent tears. Instead, be ready for them. Be ready to provide a tissue or give persons some time to compose themselves. There's no reason you can't pick the conversation back up in 15 minutes after somebody collects themselves. The point is you'o got to kind of hunt for a teachable moment. When some one's upset, they're not in a teachable moments.
