ApoB containing lipoproteins or LDLC are causally related to atherosclerosis. The more particles you have that are atherogenic, the more chances you have of those atherogenic particles being able to get into the arterial lining. This isn't to say that cholesterol is bad, I just want to make sure that's very, very clear, cholesterol is inherently not bad. There are some dietary things that can change that, but mostly gene defects are the reason for why we see high amounts of cholesterol in the blood.
