There are no magical training zones that can maximize adaptation or dead space where the adaptation is less. Specific training can be defined as your goal, race place plus or minus a few percent and simply serves as the basis from which to start and orient your classification system. The ultimate goal of training is to race a particular distance at a certain pace. According to the law of specificity, this is what matters most.
