The Importance of Fun in Training
It's just the time and manner in which it takes to build muscle you've got to be at a certain proximity relative to failure we know this. With that very high rep style calisthenics you've got a ton of reps before you get close to that point of exhausting your muscles but if you do it in another manner as you said with a slower tempo rep-wise it'll be less to get to that point. Ultimately I'd say with going with what you enjoy like that's probably more fundamental than what the research says is optimal because if you're having fun with it you're going to put yourself in that state to push yourself compared to just oh the science says this is optimal
