High intensity doesn't mean its necessarily potentially more injurious from a muscular scelital perspective. You can exercise very vigorously on a bike or on an elliptical with little impact and very low joint stress, right? So i think it's gauging the amount of cellular disruption. sprint running much, much higher joint impact forces, much, much greater eccentric loading, potential for soreness and and an injury.
