The Rise of State Capacity

The US government is just one such organization that's been undergoing this process for a long time. The rise in American state capacity starting in the 1930s could only happen once because you can't increase government spending from single digit percentage of GDP to 20% or, you know, 15 to 20%. And every time you do it, you do have like every time you doing a large increase in the size of government and then the scope of what it does. It seems very opaque but maybe even something as simple as having actual KPIs for government agencies would be an interesting idea.
