Fading works really well in scenarios where there's a regular structure so I'm similar to you I hadn't actually used it a whole heap even before your book but when I came to teaching this Pythagoras stuff to the unines. A lot of these techniques with work examples work most simply with algebra and then when you move to either arithmetic with younger students or with geometry or other areas of math algebra is special. It will take me more drafts to get that right then it will be to create a fading or a word example with algebra.
