The reason why I think we have ethical concern for people outside of ourselves is because of these evolutionary reasons that I've just explained from that like with the mathematician you can then say and once we have these principles let's now use reason to apply them consistently in which case you can do what you do so well. If you're going to save the child drowning in the puddle why won't you donate your money to charity that will save you even more people for less of a price? That's where reason comes in, he says.
