The essence of the philosophy is that virtue is the only true good. The Stoics consider that to be the only absolutely intrinsically good thing in life. And everything else in life has value, but it's of secondary value compared to our supreme goal - reason and wisdom. So for example, wealth and reputation are not intrinsically valuable. What matters is how you use them wisely or foolishly.
