Nutrition experts are concerned that they will make themselves look bad if they publish data about the populations intake of a nutrient. The guidance for using the d r i s to measure population level intakes is to say that you should use the estimated average requirement of a metric. But this is based on a preposterous premise, which is that if the intake of something varies in the population, that it is automatically varying.
