In individualistic cultures, like we have here, it is kind of each one for themselves, sink or swim. We don't have a lot of social support here in the States. So much pressure to conform or die is probably the message that our psyche gets. And then there are also cultures that are conformist in other ways. Conform is the mantra. Like don't stick out. It's not about you. You're screwed in some ways and life will not be easy for you. I understand why we all have these sort of somewhat like conflicted, perpetually challenging sort of psyches because life is difficult.
