The History of Copulas

The only other place that I can think of where people regularly quote a mono valent copula in English is out of the Old Testament. So maybe English was happier with this at one point than it is now. Some languages, some languages are perfectly happy to use this everywhere. It's very strange in Spanish,. A star combines two separate verbs into one, one of which meant to stand. And then there's another meaning sit in there somewhere.
