The Origin of Coppet in Old English
The latin word for head was copet. And according to tradition, when the foundation of the temple was being laid, the romans found a human skull buried in the ground. They interpreted this head as a sign that ro was destined to be the head of all italy. In old english, we have the word hafud, and that was the original version of the modern word head. Over time, the middle consonant f had fallen out, and the word was shortened to themodern word head.
