The Consequences of Seasons in the Bay Area

When I was growing up, people would say the Bay Area has no seasons by which they meant it didn't have four seasons. And that weirdly enough that framing actually rendered me insensitive to the seasons that were actually happening because I wasn't using that kind of framework. But yeah, this idea that a four seasons really shows how certain ideas about time that happen in a really specific context can get exported to other places. It can sort of distort your perception of the changes that are actually happening in those places.
