Introduction

Gaius Marius returned to the public stage in 91 BC. The Roman-led Italian Confederacy was breaking apart. A collection of Italian allies would break away and form an independent state. After two years, the Italians would finally be granted their simpler request to be treated as equals. But those were a bloody two years.
