CHAPTER

The Importance of Self-Experimentation

The fear around food can create a cortisol response. Michelle: "I'm hoping that what we kind of make a turn in nutrition is that it just becomes much less about what we're hearing and much more about what we's we are feeling" She says the only way to get healthy is by creating a strong line of communication between your body and brain.

Like the CG, look, I
Speaker 2
got the CGMs without going out rabbit hole, I think are incredible tools to get an understanding of how you react to. But you can take it too far where there are some people are like petrified of a
Speaker 1
banana. Exactly. And again, the fear around food can create a cortisol response can create an ability to digest food properly. Like you don't want to be scared of bananas. We want that to
Speaker 2
be clear. So when I did my, you know, tenorsate, I think it was about a week when I was trying out levels and I tried a couple of these, you know, I would say like, okay, like, let's see how high we can get this sucker. And, you know, do all sorts of experiments. One of the things I found is anytime I had the combination of chocolate and a nut butter, I would have like zero response, like in terms of glycemic, I'm like, super
Speaker 1
dense and fat. That's why. Yeah. It was
Speaker 2
like, okay, I'll just eat, you know, peanut butter cups all day. I'm good. So, so what message is that, you know? It's the
Speaker 1
interpretation that matter. You're totally, and I noticed fruit spikes me really hot, but spikes high also on the CGM. Well, people don't understand you don't actually want your blood sugar flatlined. You need the glucose from foods and to enter your cells through the action of insulin. So it's like, that's that the new thing is getting as as flatline as possible. And I'm like, don't you kind of want the spikes. The spikes are
Speaker 2
as long as you just don't want to have a permanent spike. You don't want to be diabetic. What do you think we're going to be talking about a year or so from now? What's
Speaker 1
interesting to you? I want us to go forward by going backwards. And I hope that people are again, people are getting so fed up with the divisiveness and nutrition that I think what is starting to happen is people are starting to self listen and starting to self experiment. And I'm hoping that what we kind of make a turn in nutrition is that it just becomes much less about what we're hearing and much more about what we're we are feeling. And I am seeing that shift already. And even like client applications to work with me, I'm like, oh, you're kind of seeing like listening to others isn't working for you. You actually have to like access your own information. So I'm hoping that it becomes everyone's doing their own thing thing in the future. And I'm starting to see that shift. And I also hope that we can come to a point where we can at some point make some shifts in the in the food system. I hope that and I know like you said, there's more products available. But the idea that food advertising even exists is
Speaker 2
a wild thing that doesn't exist in like any other country. So in closing, we're both native New Yorkers. So let's say let's say you have a giant billboard on the Midtown Tunnel. What's on your giant billboard? What's your message?
Speaker 1
I love that. Let's do the 59 Street Bridge. Queens of Manhattan. 59
Speaker 2
Street. I love that. I'm like feeling groovy. So I'm in a garfunkel.
Speaker 1
So queens. I'm in a garfunkel. So queens. Oh my gosh. I would say I so my name, my podcast is Quiet the Diet. And what the meaning of Quiet the Diet is for me is you master your health by listening to yourself. So everything that you do in your life, you're taking in information so that you can decipher and use with your own intuition what works for you. So the only way to get healthy is by creating a strong line of communication between your body and brain and listening to yourself.
Speaker 2
Amen. Michelle. Thank you so much.
Speaker 1
Thank you so much. It was a ball. Thank you.
