The Effects of Protein Restrictions on Lifespan in Mice
I don't know that we have rock solid data to say with 100% certainty that a calorically restricted Twinkie diet is probably not good for you. I think the take home is, from the mouse studies, it seems like total calories is important. There's a little bit of data on carbohydrate restriction and ketogenic diet. The effects there are pretty small on lifespan in mice. Health span metrics look a little more convincing.
