The Importance of Mobility in the Hips
The hip is the hub of stability, so if you can't get into positions of instability then there's a risk for injury. Mobility work is more common in the shoulder because we have greater access to range of motion. The ball and socket of the glenoid heel roll joint allows for a greater range than anywhere else in the body. For lower body stuff, stretching is sure for some cases, yeah.
