Cognitive flexibility theory is the notion of trying to help people achieve expertise. It prevents them from locking in to routines and standard ways of doing things so that they can become more naturally adaptive. You can give them vicarious experiences that can't be handled by the usual routines, just to force them out of their comfort zone.
