The Role of Calcium Ions in Muscle Damage
When we're talking about calcium ion related muscle damage events, basically, that's always how muscle damage happens. So if somebody bruises themselves, and creates what we call a contusion in the medical literature, then that bruising, obviously, we see the blood vessels damage. But also, there's going to be muscle fiber damage. The impact trauma causes a bursting of the cell memory, that cell memory, and then allows extra calcium ions into the fiber. And then after that moment, the exact same process of damage occurs as happens after exercise.
