I don't think we really have a great understanding for why sleep quality degrades with age. I actually don't know much about the mechanisms there. It's possible that the mechanisms are starting to be understood and that's not right in my wheelhouse, so I'm not aware. The other thing is going to be super interesting is whether or not interventions that target the biology of aging can improve sleep quality. There's some evidence in mice for caloric restriction at least, having a positive impact on sleep quality in the context of aging.
