Eisenhower's Address to the American Experience
Eisenhower was warning Americans that the Cold War posed a threat to their democratic institutions. The military-industrial complex, it's a powerful phrase, and Americans were increasingly uneasy about what we had to show for this. But in the early 60s, we had enough nuclear warheads and ICBMs to destroy the Soviet Union many times over. A hot war would likely destroy the entire world but Eisenhower was warning against its impact on American life.
