Motivated reasoning and nutshell. What you do is you can take this after you've established rapport and the person feels comfortable with you, they feel like it's okay that we're going to investigate this together. Once that person is laid out, you can then ask, this is the powerful question of motivation interviewing. The person must to answer your question produce reasons in the direction of the counter argument. It also works in these negotiation persuasion frames as well.
