Under the Delaney Clause of the 1938 Food Drugs and Cosmetic Act, saccharin should have been pulled from the market in 1977. But it wasn't due to how much public pressure there was against banning it. A compromise was struck where all products with saccharin were required to bear a warning label that read "use of this product may be hazardous to your health" That label was put on all saccharin products in 1977 and stayed there until 2000.
