Napoleon and Phrenology
The wife of the governor of Paris at the time wrote a book about phrenology. She says that Napoleon hated dr. Gaul and had no faith in his system. Phrenology was seen as establishing scientifically the inferiority of British colonial subjects. In 1833 American slave owners were eager for a science that could justify their continued enslavement.
