Introduction

In the years leading up to 17 89, almost every aspect of regime france was in need of reform. But resistance from whatever group happened to be profiting from the existing system prevented any real change. The parliament were the institution that stood to lose the most if enlightened absolutism wound up carrying the day. As we'll soon see, this conflict can easily be framed as a conflict between the monarchy on the one hand and Parliament on the other.
