The Amyloid Hypothesis and Alzheimer's Disease

The amyloid hypothesis rests on a few key scientific pieces of evidence. To meet criteria for Alzheimer's disease, you have to see these amyloid deposits in the brain. We know that misprocessed amyloid fragments are highly toxic to surviving neurons. Another important line of evidence is genetics. Rare forms of genetically induced Alzheimer's disease result in a form of Alzheimer's disease that occurs early in life and kills people at a young age.
