The Whore of Babylon

For a long time Babylon was nothing more than a broken heap, said by the locals 100 miles south of Baghdad to be haunted. Its cuneiform history and religion and literature lay undeciphered and forgotten. In the 1980s Saddam Hussein reconstructed some of Babylon in a reckless abandon - burying layers of artifacts underneath his new facades.
