Socrates and the Stoics

The Cynics were perhaps the most outrageous group of philosophers to emerge in the ancient world. But they showed up at Socrates' execution, which is more than we can say for Plato. The early Stoics were influenced by the cynics, and followed them by seeing Socrates as an ethical exemplar. On the other hand, the Stoics did not follow the cynics in adopting their way of life.
