I'm a Christian and I've Been a Catholic for a Long Time.

I know people who don't read the Bible or take any of it seriously, but they still feel compelled to participate in these symbolic rituals. And I guess I have mixed feelings about it, but I also get it. My point is really that when you start to be able to take a little of the political heat out of this question, you realize that there are things that one rejects in a kind of state of fear. It's not just that we exist, but identity? What an extraordinary thing to be part of, to be accidentally part of.
