The inner ego expresses itself as our relationship with ourselves. It's the one that reprimends you and says, why you do that? Elh, you screw id up again. The outer ego is what we adopt in any given situation so that we can fit in. So to put what it means to have these two egos at odds in contect, simply imagine what it would be like to try to ride two horses at once. If you're not good at riding one horse, riding two is sure to lead to some kind of a dramatic experience sooner rather than later. And most people's lives are just one bang up to another as far as relationships go. Not that that's unusual
