Europe's Role in the Indo-Pacific Region
Europe has three basic problems in thinking about the region. Most European players frankly don't take the region seriously beyond the question of China. The second problem Europe has to be blunt about it is the Americans because increasingly Americans view transatlantic consensus on China as a proxy for collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region. Because Europe doesn't really have a security role in the region, it has to approach the region in terms of amplifying its role through standard setting regulatory architectures and technology partnerships.
