The Origins of Greek Cheese
The first recorded shipment of cheese took place in 1200 BCE through the Mediterranean Sea. The Greeks were making fresh cheeses for daily eating, but they were also exporting cheese. So they were developing these harder, hardier varieties of cheese that could survive voyages.
