Social heuristics are extremely important and imitation is one. These heuristics in the social contact define us. They're also glued to emotions. So trust your doctor is highly emotional, basically a risk your own life. We did not evolve to deal with risk. That's an unusual situation. Many of my fellow researchers still don't take heuristics seriously. I often struggle about what single heuristics would bring you through the day if you just follow one? Could it be imitate what your peers do? It's something that's desperately needed.
