The Importance of Race Power
I think the key here is like, let's say I race it at an average of 300 watts, I'm not going 390 up the climb. My time is better when I can push a little more on the climbs and of course try to be a little more controlled. Especially if you're out of the saddle, there's a lot of climbs where you can ride in aero. And in that case, a huge spike might not be as good. If you go from 300 to 350, then you get to the top of the climb and you're riding 260 for even 30 seconds, it was not worth it.
