The Model T Ford was the first affordable automobile introduced in 1908. Prices just falling every year by 1920, a new Model T without any extras you could get for $300. By 1923, you've got about 17, 18,000 people a year being killed by motor vehicles. Three-quarters of those people are pedestrians.
