How the Brain Handles Pain and Pleasure
Lemke: Our brain is doing its best to keep us alive by putting the brakes on pleasure. On the flip side, our brain's reward is for seeking out the right kind of pain. Lemke: As societies have more access to easy pleasure and comforts, we have higher levels of unhappiness. When we learn to embrace discomfort, we are not only in strengthening ourselves, but also able to find more pleasure.
