Is Understanding by Design Creating Interdisciplinary Curriculum Experiences?

I've seen this over the years in the PYP program of IB, the primary program. When you try to have a single theme that's going to fuse multiple disciplines, you get a lot of unnatural or, or superficial connections. My point though is that with all good intentions, just selecting some arbitrary theme can often be shallow and superficial and forced. And it's an abuse of time to be harsh.
